Tiffany Stained Glass - Full day Course - 16 years +

Join Jennifer from McEwan Stained Glass, an experienced stained glass artist and tutor with a passion for sharing this beautiful traditional craft.

The copper foil method, also known as the Tiffany Method, is a technique used in stained glass construction. This method involves wrapping the edges of each glass piece with copper foil tape. The pieces are then joined together by soldering, which creates a metal framework that holds the glass together.

This one-day course is designed to equip you with the skills, tools, and glass necessary to create one to two stained glass pieces using the copper foil technique.

We will start the workshop with an overview of the basic tools used for scoring and cutting glass, followed by a short demonstration on how to break glass safely. You will then have the opportunity to practice your cutting skills on standard ‘float’ glass.

Once you feel comfortable, you will select a design from a large variety of available templates. You will cut and prepare pieces of coloured art glass to build your first design. After that, you will learn how to grind the edges of each glass piece in preparation for foiling. You will be taught how to apply the foil to the glass pieces.

After a lunch break, we will continue the workshop by learning how to solder all the glass pieces together. If time allows, you will have the opportunity to create a second sun catcher. All pieces made during the course will be yours to take home and keep.

All participants must be 16 years and over. For safety precautions of working with glass, it is advised to wear trousers or long skirts and closed shoes. NO FLIP FLOPS or sandals.
