Pottery White Houses
Join Vicky from Vicky Potting, an experienced hand-building ceramics tutor based in Derbyshire
Design and construct your very own adorable ceramic house tealight holder – the perfect little piece to bring a warm, cosy glow to your home through autumn and winter. Pop a tealight inside and watch the candlelight flicker through the windows, or fill it with tiny fairy lights for an equally gorgeous glow.
Using white stoneware clay, you’ll learn and develop slab-building techniques as you construct your house from scratch. Follow a pattern or let your imagination take over and create a home completely unique to you.
There are so many ways to make it your own. Keep things beautifully simple for a clean Scandinavian feel, add doors, windows, roof tiles and architectural details for a more traditional look, create a characterful Dutch-style house, or play with texture and botanical prints, stamps and impressed details in the clay.
This is such a lovely project for the cosy, candlelight season – imagine your finished little house glowing on a mantelpiece, windowsill or tucked amongst your autumn and Christmas decorations.
Once finished, your ceramic house will be professionally fired and glazed in white, allowing all those lovely textures and handmade details to really stand out while keeping the finished piece simple, stylish and timeless.
This workshop is perfect for beginners, as well as anyone looking to build on their existing pottery skills and experiment with slab building, texture and decorative techniques.
Come with an idea in mind or simply see where the clay takes you – no two little houses will ever be the same.
Please note: Your pottery will need time to dry before being professionally fired and glazed. Your finished piece will be ready to collect from the studio approximately 3 weeks later.
