Christmas Keepsake Angel Pottery Workshop - Join Vicky from Vicky Potting, an experienced hand-building ceramics tutor based in Derbyshire 

Create a beautiful handmade Celestial angel to treasure for years to come.

There’s something extra special about the Christmas decorations that have a story behind them  - the ones carefully wrapped away in January and brought back out each December, instantly reminding you of where they came from and who made them.

In this brand new festive pottery workshop, you’ll create your very own beautiful ceramic Christmas angel from stoneware clay - completely handmade by you and full of all those lovely little imperfections and personal details that make handmade Christmas decorations so special.

And the best bit? You absolutely don’t need to have worked with clay before.

Vicky will guide you through the whole process step-by-step, beginning with simple slab-building techniques to create your angel’s flowing dress. You’ll then make her beautiful wings, using templates and cutters before adding your own textures, patterns and decorative details.

Next comes the really lovely part - giving your angel her personality.

You’ll model her head, hair and halo before adding as much or as little detail as you like. Perhaps a tiny necklace, textured dress, festive embellishments or your own little personal touches. More experienced potters can take their angel a step further by adding arms and additional sculptural details too.

If you’d love your angel to have an extra little bit of Christmas magic, you can pierce decorative holes through her dress so that a small light placed inside can twinkle through once she’s finished - Imagine her glowing softly on a mantelpiece or windowsill on a dark December evening. 

You’ll also be able to choose from a selection of lovely glaze colours for her wings and hair, meaning every angel created around our pottery table will have her own completely individual character.

Important Note on Size & Weight: Because these angels are made from pottery, they have a nice, substantial feel standing 18-20cm tall. Due to their weight, they may not be suitable for the very top of your Christmas tree, but she’ll look beautiful nestled amongst greenery and fairy lights on a mantelpiece, standing on a festive table, displayed on a shelf or glowing in a window.

A little note about your finished angel: Your pottery will need to dry slowly before being fired and glazed, so your angel won’t be ready to take home on the day. Once all the pottery magic has happened behind the scenes, your finished angel will be returned to our studio ready for collection approximately 3–4 weeks later.
