Pottery - Illuminated Lighthouse | Friday 24th July - 1pm till 5pm
Join us for some coastal-inspired creativity!
In this brand new immersive workshop, you will learn how to build a beautiful, functional ceramic lighthouse. Standing approximately 25 to 30cm tall and crafted from durable stoneware clay, your lighthouse will be perfectly suited for a prominent spot in your home or as a weatherproof feature in your garden.
What You’ll Learn & Create:
This is a fantastic, all-in-one workshop that covers so many different pottery skills. You are truly doing everything from start to finish!
- The Structure: We’ll dive into slab-building to construct a tower, and use pinch-potting to form the perfect, clever removable top. It is designed perfectly to hold a tealight or battery lights so your lighthouse actually glows!
- The Sculpting: You'll use sprig moulds to add beautiful 3D details like shells and star fish, plus hand build a tiny door or intricate stonework around the base.
- The Glazing & Detail: To decorate your piece, you will have the choice of one colour for your lighthouse stripes, and a second coordinating colour for your door or specific features. To finish, your tutor will use professional ceramic oxides over your hand-sculpted shells and stonework. This clever technique sinks into the textures, beautifully highlighting all of your fine carving and detail!
Complexity Levels 4-5: The Crafter
This session is designed for those who enjoy a detailed project. While your tutor will guide you through every stage with live demonstrations, the construction and fine detail work make this a rewarding challenge for ambitious beginners and more experienced potters alike.
Included in your workshop:
- All materials and equipment
- Step by step instructions and demonstrations
- Firing and glazing of your finished piece
- Drinks and delicious cake
- 10% OFF in the gift shop on the day
Please Note: Pottery is a slow and careful process. Your handcrafted lighthouse will need time to dry thoroughly before being fired in the kiln and then glazed. Your finished piece will be ready for collection approximately 2-3 weeks after the workshop.
