Pottery Gingerbread House | Thursday 22nd October - 10am till 4pm
This workshop is led by Vicky Potting
A Sweet Day of Clay Creation! Build & Glaze Workshop
Join Vicky from Vicky Potting, an experienced hand-building ceramics tutor based in Derbyshire
This is a full day workshop so you have lots of time to build and decorate this sweet little gingerbread house. You can put a tea light or a small set of lights underneath to illuminate it.
We will use terracotta clay to make our gingerbread as, when fired, this resembles the real thing! Learn to use slab building techniques to construct the house - there will be a choice of designs and templates to use. We’ll first cut out windows and doors before assembly then decorate with pottery sweets, if you wish, and finally use glaze directly onto the clay as icing.
You can keep things simple or go for an elaborate and intricate design. There will be some textured rollers which can be used to imprint a pattern onto the clay to act as a guide for applying the glaze colours. In this creative workshop you will get to use a type of glaze called ‘Designer Liner’ in small squeezy bottles – this is easier than painting or even icing! Enjoy a leisurely day creating a delightful gingerbread house with terracotta clay.
Lunch is not included and you will need to bring your own with you. We will stop for about 30mins at approximately 1pm for lunch but timings may vary depending on how everyone is doing.
Whether you're a seasoned potter or a complete beginner, this workshop is perfect for anyone who loves creativity and wants to have a fun and rewarding day. All techniques will be demonstrated and all equipment provided.
Note: If you have done a previous pottery workshop, where you have constructed a house, you are welcome to bring along your own design and template. All pieces of your template should easily fit within an A3 piece of paper and the height of the house should be a maximum of 14cm including a chimney. Or feel free to adapt the provided templates.
Please note: Your pottery will need time to dry before being professionally fired. Your finished piece will be ready to collect from the studio approximately 3 weeks later.
