The One-Day Clay Club: Your Personal Pottery Playground

Ready to dive deep into your creativity? Join us for a one full-day Clay Club session - a dedicated six-hour "pottery playground" where the studio is yours to explore! Unlike our themed workshops, this day is all about total creative freedom. Whether you have a specific project in mind or want to experiment with new ideas, this is your time to shine.

Some prior experience with clay, ideally through one of my previous workshops, is
recommended to make the most of this independent format.

Please Note: This is a Level 6 workshop. While your tutor is there to assist, this session is best suited for those comfortable working independently.

During the day you'll have the space and time to create whatever your heart desires using high-quality stoneware clay. You might choose to spend the entire day meticulously building one large, complex masterpiece, or you could spend your time crafting a series of smaller items - the choice is entirely yours!
Your tutor will be on hand throughout the day to provide individual guidance, offer technical advice, and help you bring your unique visions to life.

Important: Come Prepared! To make the most of your six hours in the studio, it is essential that you arrive with a plan. Because this is a self-directed session rather than a guided project, we ask all participants to have a think beforehand about what they would like to achieve. Please bring along sketches, photos, or reference images of items you’d like to copy or draw inspiration from. This ensures we can get stuck into the making right away!

Lunch & Breaks: We will take a break at 1pm to recharge our creative batteries. It is entirely up to you whether you would like to take a quick 30-minute refresh or a full hour for lunch. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch to enjoy in the studio, or feel free to head out and grab something from a local café.

Making, Painting & Glazing: This day is focused purely on the making process. Once your items are finished, you have two choices for the final finish:

  • Glazing: You can choose from a selection of beautiful, coloured glazes on the day, and your tutor will personally glaze your work for you after its first firing.
  • Underglazes: Alternatively, if you want to add intricate patterns or colours yourself, you can spend the morning building your item and the afternoon using underglazes to paint directly onto the wet clay.

Please note: If you wish to use the under-glazing option, you will need to plan your time accordingly to ensure your build is finished in time.

What’s Included:

  • Two Items Included: Your workshop fee covers 2kg of clay, professional firing, and glazing/under-glazing for your first two creations.
  • Make More: Extra pieces are charged at just £5 per item, which includes the additional clay, firing, and glazes.
  • Expert Support: You tutor will be there to support your build, whether you're using slab-building, coiling, or pinch-pot techniques. With a maximum of 10 participants, we can ensure everyone receives the support they need.

Your finished work will be ready for collection approximately 3 weeks after the
workshop.

Come with an idea, leave with a masterpiece!
